St Pauls is a vibrant community that has witnessed great changes over the past few years.

There is now a very active community partnership in place and they are busily overseeing and driving the Neighbourhood Action Plan to bring about long-term and sustained improvements in the community.

Significant inroads have been achieved in tackling the open drugs market and there are many strategies in place to reduce this issue still further.

Day of Action
On 2 February 2010 a day of police action saw the St Pauls Neighbourhood Beat Team implement a number of environmental management improvements on Brighton Street and Argyle Road. Working in conjunction with key partner agencies, Hintons Recovery, Safer Bristol and the Bristol City Council Housing Department, together the team successfully removed an abandoned IVECO lorry, re-sited two other vehicles and cleared large concentrations of hazardous appliances and disused furniture from around the site. Further environmental management action is planned and is to be expected imminently.

Partners and Communities Together (PACT) gives you the opportunity to influence what happens in your neighbourhood and is our local policing pledge to you. It is a mechanism whereby neighbourhood issues, identified through local meetings, are taken to a partnership panel, where courses of action are agreed. Find out more.

If you are unable to attend a meeting but would like to make your views known, please Register your local priorities.

Current public priorities

Agreed 1st February 2010

1. Drug dealing Brighton Street/Argyle Road, St Pauls
Groups gathering in these streets and seen to be dealing drugs. They are seen at all times of the day and night, seven days a week. Residents are experiencing noise, litter and associated anti-social behaviour.

Action:
* Short term – Maintain frequent high-visibility police patrols utilising stop and search powers where appropriate. Also utilising drugs dogs.
* Long term - Police and Partners problem-solving approach ongoing, to possibly open up road and improve environment. Installation of council CCTV in surrounding streets.

At the last PACT meeting the group had a detailed discussion around the drug issues in Brighton Street and Argyle Road to identify what exactly the problems are. As a result of these discussions, the police have recently taken targeted action to combat drug dealing in this area. See the latest news update regarding action on 02/02/10.

2. Pavement parking in St Pauls
Vehicles parked on the pavement on numerous streets in St Pauls blocking the pavement and causing pedestrians to walk in the road. Problem more specific during office hours Monday to Friday. No specific streets identified at this stage.

Action:
* General advice given at the meeting around how to report matter to police and what residents can expect when an Officer/PCSO attends.
* Residents were asked that if they identified any particular street affected by this problem, that they raise it at the next meeting for a more targeted response.

3. Anti-social behaviour / Vice-related activity in and around Cave Court
To be identified.

Lead Agency: Police, on all issues.
