This is a photo looking up the High Street in Yeovil. A row of three and four storey buildings is both sides of the street. All the buildings have shops below them. There are very tall double lanterned street lights. To the bottom left is a black and white image of the photo

Somerset East district > South Somerset neighbourhood area > Yeovil Central beat

Yeovil Central beat covers the central part of Yeovil town and principally comprises the town's retail outlets and the Quedam Shopping Centre. It is a thriving and expanding shopping and entertainment centre.

The beat area also includes Yeovil District Hospital, Milford Schools, the Museum of South Somerset and the Leisure Centre.

In terms of resourcing the town centre is treated as a beat in its own right, as is the remainder of Yeovil Central beat - the residential areas.

Partners and Communities Together (PACT) gives you the opportunity to influence what happens in your neighbourhood. It is a mechanism whereby neighbourhood issues, identified through local meetings, are taken to a partnership panel, where courses of action are agreed. Find out more.

If you are unable to attend a meeting but would like to make your views known, please Register your local priorities.

Current public priorities

Agreed 2nd June 2010

1. Anti-social behaviour (ASB) - Milford Park, Chelston Avenue and Goldcroft
* We are currently receiving an increasing number of reports relating to ASB in the Milford Park area. This includes underage drinking and littering - with a large number of broken bottles being left in the park which cause a danger to children playing in the area.
* There has also been some damage caused to the temporary metal fencing surrounding the building work currently on-going in the park.

There are going to be increased patrols in the area and positive action will be taken with anyone committing offences. If you have any information regarding identity of offenders or would like to discuss these issues, please contact the Yeovil Central SSN team.

2. Traffic issues
* A number of vehicles continue not to adhere to the restrictions in the pedestrian area - by driving through the zone and also parking. Positive action will be taken with any offending vehicles.
* Loading times are also not being adhered to throughout the town centre area. Again, positive action will be taken with offending vehicles.

Please note that loading and disabled bays are dual purpose in many locations and the permitted times are clearly signed in those areas - please ensure that you check signage before parking/leaving your vehicle or a parking ticket may be issued. If you require any further information please contact the Yeovil Central team at Yeovil police station.

3. Anti-social behaviour and damage at Highfield Business Park
We have received reports of youths gaining access to a derelect area of the business park where they are smashing windows, damaging roofing and not only putting themselves in danger of harm but causing nuisance to residents in the local area. Police will be regularly patrolling the area and will deal with anyone found at the premises, and as always, members of the community are asked to report any such incidents.

Telephone scam
Police are warning residents to be aware of a scam which promises the recipient a council tax refund :-

Parking
When bringing your vehicle into the town centre please be mindful of where you are parking; we have had many vehicles parking alongside dropped kerbs. We are aware that this is happening mainly around Wine Street and Union Street within the town and along Central Acre on the outskirts of town. Disabled badge holders please be aware that you cannot park over dropped kerbs and if anyone is seen to be doing this £30 fines will be issued to try and resolve this problem. Dropped kerbs are important in that they give access for people to cross the road safely; they also make crossing the road easier for wheelchair users, people with push chairs and disabled persons.

Begging
Unfortunately, in the town centre, there are a minority of people who ask members of the public for money and if none is handed over they can sometimes become persistent and intimidating. If anyone experiences problems with begging in the town centre and would be willing to help us combat this issue by providing a statement, then please contact us on 0845 4567000 or by email to the team via the links on this page.

Yeovil 'No Drinking Zone'
Alcohol can be an issue within the town centre as the weather starts to get better and the evenings lighter. Yeovil town centre is a 'No Drinking Zone' and anybody seen drinking alcohol in a public place within the designated zone will have their alcohol removed from them. Anti-social behaviour of this type will not be tolerated and offenders will be dealt with robustly.

Street Pastors to the rescue (Yeovil)
Yeovil Street Pastors are volunteers from local churches who will assist the police by patrolling the town centre streets at night to help with vulnerable persons who find themselves in need of care and reassurance. For further information please contact Yeovil@streetpastors.org.uk or PC Dave Buckley at Yeovil Police Station.
