The South Petherton beat lies to the far north-east of the Chard section and includes the parishes of Shepton Beauchamp, Seavington St Michael, Seavington St Mary, Lopen and Over Stratton. The A303 runs east/west through the beat area.

Non-dwelling burglary (South Petherton)
Entry was gained to farm buildings some time between 22 and 26 October at New Cross. A locked gate was removed from its hinges and a second gate lock was cut, allowing access to the farm buildings. Several buildings were entered and the only item the victim has noticed missing is a 1 gallon can of oil. Anybody with any information is being urged to contact Police on 0845 456 7000 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Criminal damage incidents (South Petherton)
Any witness to any of the below incidents is urged to contact Police on 0845 456 7000 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111:

  • Some time overnight of Thursday 22 October a vehicle parked in Lamprey's Lane was damaged with metallic yellow paint. Offenders sprayed the driver's door, driver's side rear door and driver's wing.
  • At 8.30am on Friday 23 October a report was received that a vehicle parked in Stoodham was also sprayed with metallic yellow paint; damage was caused to the bonnet.
  • At 9.45pm on Saturday 24 October a plate glass window to a coffee shop in St James Street was smashed; a silver 4x4 was seen at the location.
  • At 9.50pm on Saturday 24 October the rear window and two offside windows to a vehicle in St James Street were smashed; a silver 4x4 was seen to speed away from the scene.

Theft of tools (South Petherton)
Some time between midnight and 4am on 21 October a garage door was forced at a property in West Street, South Petherton and tools were stolen from within. The makes and models are unknown at the moment but the tools are a chainsaw, drill and strimmer. Officers are appealing for any witnesses to please come forward on 0845 456 7000 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Current public priorities

Agreed 22nd September 2009

1. Anti-social behaviour involving mopeds in South Petherton recreational fields. This tends to be an issue from 7.00pm onwards all days of the week. PCSO Oliver Hammonds is the lead agent.
Action - Increased patrols. Names/details of those involved to be recorded and dealt with appropriately.

2. Anti-social behaviour and drinking of alcohol in Hayes End, from 8pm onwards all days of week. PCSO Oliver Hammonds is the lead agent.
Action - Increased patrols. Names/details of those involved to be recorded and dealt with appropriately.

3. Double parking and parking on double yellow lines in St James Street.
Action - to prosecute those found to be parking illegally. Increased high visibility patrols.

4. Speeding in Seavington and Lopen, all times of the day throughout the week. PCSO Charlotte Rogers is the lead agent along with Gemma North, CSW Administrator whose email address is gemma.north@southsomerset.gov.uk.

Exploring the dangers of drugs - with Tim, Nick, Wayne and Lorraine (Forcewide)
Two new cartoons explaining the dangers of drugs have been produced by Avon and Somerset Police to educate teenagers about the risks of misusing illegal substances.

Beat surgeries in the mobile library bus (South Petherton beat)
PCSO Charlie Rogers is conducting a drop-in opportunity for members of the public to speak to her on the mobile library bus. Charlie will be on board to answer any policing questions or to discuss any community issues or initative ideas. There are no times advertised as she will be travelling around the villages in accordance with the library bus planned schedule, as follows:

  • Over Stratton, Lopen, Seavingtons - 20 November 2009
  • Shepton Beauchamp - 16 December 2009

Awards for police excellence are launched (Avon and Somerset)
The hunt is on to find the "Best on the Beat" with the launch of the third annual Community Policing Awards, jointly organised by Avon and Somerset Police Authority and Constabulary.

Football game

Football project (South Petherton)
Anyone from in or around South Petherton, from ages 10 to 17, and interested in football, please come along and join us at the Recreation Ground, Lightgate Road in South Petherton every Tuesday from 6pm to 8pm, where Yeovil Town Coaches are giving professional coaching to any budding footballer. Also any help from an adult would be much appreciated as we are currently looking for an adult to take a coaching course (paid for) to carry on the course. If anyone is interested in this please feel free to contact PCSO Rogers 8367 on either the email link below or though the Force Service Centre on 0845 456 7000.

Police Post (South Petherton)
The Police Post is held every Wednesday and Saturday from 9am until 12noon at The David Hall, Roundwell Street.

Policing Pledge (Forcewide)
43 Police Forces have been congratulated for their outstanding commitment and dedication in reaching the momentous milestone of delivering the Policing Pledge for every community across England and Wales. The Policing Pledge was launched as part of the Policing Green Paper earlier in the year and means the public now has a greater say and influence over how their communities are policed.
