The Axbridge area is a tourist attraction and one of a number of local beauty spots. It is adjacent to Cheddar reservoir which is used for sailing and fishing. The area is popular with walkers and glider flyers on the southern slopes of the Mendips.

The beat takes in the historic town of Axbridge with its medieval streets and square which has been a meeting place for centuries and now has restaurants, shops and pubs serving both local residents and increasing numbers of tourists attracted to the town's history and natural beauty.

The Axe Vale area takes in the rural parishes of Compton Bishop, Weare, Badgworth and Chapel Allerton. The Mendip Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty cover the north and Crook Peak gives impressive views over the scenic rural landscape and is very popular with walkers and for outdoor pursuits such as paragliding.

The area is traditionally heavily involved with agriculture, and easy road access has encouraged many new residents and businesses.
