Avonmouth village, which is situated close to J18 of the M5, is predominantly an industrial village but there is a residential area which contains about 15,000 residents. In Avonmouth there are three primary schools and also a newly opened children’s centre based within the grounds of Avonmouth Primary School.

Avonmouth also has several public houses but the main feature is the park in the middle of the village.

Avonmouth ward also covers Shirehampton village. There is a main high street that runs down the centre of the village, which has a number of stores. These range from a large factory outlet store and chemists to supermarkets and local run businesses. There are also a number of public houses within the village and the area has a number of Neighbourhood Watch groups.

Oasis Academy, which has over 500 students, is situated close to Shirehampton High Street and the area also has two primary schools.

Clean Up Day
On 27 July members of the beat team along with partnership agencies and members of the community held a clean up day. We spent a number of hours collecting rubbish, which even included a discarded sofa, across a number of streets in the Shirehampton area. As a result we collected 1.90 tonnes of waste. A big thank you to all those who assisted and made this day a success!

Partners and Communities Together (PACT) gives you the opportunity to influence what happens in your neighbourhood. It is a mechanism whereby neighbourhood issues, identified through local meetings, are taken to a partnership panel, where courses of action are agreed. Find out more.

If you are unable to attend a meeting but would like to make your views known, please Register your local priorities.

Current public priorities

Agreed 5th August 2010

SHIREHAMPTON
The local neighbourhood priorities were discussed and residents and partnership agencies agreed that the previous police-led priorities set at the last meeting will be ongoing for the next three months. This is because residents feel that these are still the most important local issues and therefore should continue to be prioritised. Following discussion, it was agreed that the anti-social behaviour (ASB) priority will also now include the area of the open space on Station Road, Shirehampton, following recent reports of ASB around the new play area.

1. Anti-social behaviour (ASB) on the High Street, Shirehampton, and the open space play area on Station Road, Shirehampton
To target patrols to keep ASB from affecting those young and old who have been intimidated in the past by it.
We aim to reduce calls to police about ASB by 15% compared to the same period last year. With the assistance of the partners this will be achievable. This will be ongoing for the next three months.

2. Tackling drugs by promoting ways the community can assist the police
We aim to advertise and improve the ways in which members of the Shirehampton community can report items of interest and intelligence to the police. This can be measured by the amount of intelligence coming in to the police about Shirehampton issues, whether that be anonymous or otherwise.
This is a realistic target as if we get more intelligence it will enable us to carry out proactive work around Shirehampton and disrupt the criminal activity that exists. This will be ongoing for the next three months.

AVONMOUTH (agreed 09/03/10)
Anti-social behaviour (ASB) on St Andrews Road and Catherine Street, Avonmouth
To target patrols in these areas to keep ASB from affecting those who have been affected by it. We aim to reduce ASB calls to the Police by 25% compared to the same period last year. With the assistance of our partnership agencies this will be achievable and will be ongoing for the next three months.

Outcomes

Drugs - update 07/08/10:

A recent drugs operation took place in Shirehampton and Avonmouth which was as a result of intelligence supplied to Police by members of the public.

This operation resulted in a number of persons and vehicles being stopped and searched by officers, including drugs dogs. Some of those who were stopped were dealt with for various offences.

Operations like this are aimed at causing disruption to those individuals who are involved in criminal activity and also assists in intelligence gathering.

Members of the public are encouraged to continue to report anything they believe will assist us in catching these criminals.
