Somerset West district

The Police district of Somerset West covers an area of approximately 1753 square kilometres making it the largest of the Force's six police districts. Its boundary is defined by the three local authority areas of Taunton Deane, Sedgemoor and West Somerset and stretches from the Mendip Hills to the Devon border.

Since 1998 Crime and Disorder Partnerships have been established between the police and a range of local organisations within each local authority to deal with community issues.

A 48 year old man has today been jailed by Taunton Crown court for offences of fraud totalling in excess of £50,000 and bigamy.

A man has been handed a five month prison sentence for being drunk on an inbound flight to Bristol.

Traffic now moving but advice is still to avoid the area (M5 junction 25-26)
(Motorway closed after lorry fire)
The motorway is no longer closed between junctions 25 and 26, but traffic is being taken off at the exit sliproad at junction 26 and back on at the entry sliproad.
