The Taunton Neighbourhood Area covers an area of 463 square kilometres and serves the communities of both Taunton and Wellington.

The area encompasses a large part of historic Somerset bordering the policing districts of Yeovil and the Devon and Cornwall Constabulary area.

Communities in Taunton are diverse, ranging from sleepy hamlets and larger villages such as Bishop's Lydeard and Norton Fitzwarren through to urban areas of affluence such as Galmington and socially-deprived wards such as the Halcon and Lambrook areas.

Historic Wellington comprises rural communities such as Wiveliscombe and Milverton but many people now choose to live nearer the town and the nearby M5 motorway is a commuting corridor for Exeter, Taunton and Bristol.
