A secure home will reduce the chance of your getting burgled. But, if you get home and notice signs of a break-in, don't go in or call out - the intruder could still be inside.
Go to a neighbour's to call the police if you think the burglar is still inside or has just left. Call us on 999.
If you simply wish to report that you have been burgled and you live in the force area, call 0845 4567000 24 hours a day, every day of the year. Tell the operator what has happened
and they will arrange for a police officer to attend as soon as possible.
Although we would like to be able to send an officer round straight away, due to the large number of incidents that we deal with on a daily basis, it is not always possible for us to do this.
To avoid damaging potential evidence - such as finger prints or tool marks - try wherever possible not to move any items in your home even though you may have a real urge to tidy up.
Wait until a police officer arrives. They will be able to tell you what items you can touch or move before the crime scenes investigation officer arrives.
