Every year students in halls of residence and rented accommodation suffer from burglaries because thieves see your homes as easy pickings. This is usually because security is poor and each person tends to have their own TV/video, stereo and/or computer - turning your home into an Aladdin's cave.

Postcode your property to reduce its value to the thief.

At the start of the new academic year (September 2005) the University of Bristol, UWE Bristol, City of Bristol College, University of Bath, Bath Spa University and City of Bath College would have distributed to the student community some 12,000 Student Safety Packs. These packs include an ultra violet marker pen to enable you to mark your property with your Student ID Number and your accommodation post code. When you arrive at your teaching institution at Bristol or Bath there will be a number of opportunities for you to meet with police officers who will be happy to assist with the marking of your belongings i.e. Safety Induction Briefings, Welcome Sessions, Freshers Fairs etc. If, prior to attending studies, you do not have your accommodation post code you can find your institution post code below:
