The Counter Terrorist Security Advice (CTSA) unit, are striving to protect the visible minority communities of Avon and Somerset from the violent extremism that inevitably follows heightened tension around terrorism and international conflict.

In the last four years in excess of £40,000 has been spent on target hardening a variety of vulnerable sites, from mosques, synagogues and temples to the new Somali Resource Centre seen below in Barton Hill.

Funds have been raised from ACPO(TAM), Safer Bristol, Neighbourhood Renewal and GOSW, with extensive support from Support Against Racist Incidents (SARI). The Police Bobby van staff at Newfoundland Road Police Station, have offered invaluable support and the highly effective delivery of security measures for these increasingly vulnerable communities.

Dr Shobha Das, the Deputy Director of SARI said, “Tom Hickmott and Dylan Aplin were very responsive to SARI's request for security advice relating to the Somali Resource Centre. They made some swift and effective improvements to the premises in Barton Hill, and their work went a long way towards making this vulnerable community feel safer. We hope this positive contact will improve the level of trust and confidence the community has in the police. We are grateful to Dylan and Tom for their help."
