If there is a Farm Watch scheme in your area, consider signing up. They are free and provide an effective deterrent to many criminals. Some schemes provide signs
which can be put up on farm boundaries as a warning to thieves.
You are unlikely to be a victim of crime in Avon and Somerset. However, if a thief is not deterred and comes on to your farm, do not confront the offender and
attempt to scare him off. Remaining calm and discreet gives you the best possible chance of gathering the information. Ring the police and report what you see
quickly and accurately. If a crime is in progress, ring the police on 999, otherwise use the non-emergency number 101.
As well as reporting crimes, be vigilant for people acting suspiciously in your area and make a note of any descriptions, registration numbers and the time and
location. Ask your neighbours to keep an eye on your land and do the same for them.
