The vast majority of the 178,000 festival go-ers will spend their time at Glastonbury 2009 with nothing more to worry about than which band to watch next.
However, unfortunately, during past festivals there have been a small number of crimes committed against people, including robbery and assault.
Please remember that although the vast majority of people at the festival are there to have a good time, there are some who see it as an opportunity
to rob and steal.
Police will be at the festival, both in uniform and undercover, on horseback, cycles, with dogs and on foot to deter any potential criminals but there
are lots of simple things which you can do to keep yourself as safe as possible and reduce the chances of becoming a victim of crime.
While walking around the festival try and stay with friends, especially at night – there really is safety in numbers.
All the paths between stages and to the camping fields are well lit, so stick to these.
Be aware of your surroundings. We would advise against wandering around wearing headphones, however great the music is.
Don't flash your cash about, or broadcast how great your fancy new iPod or mobile phone is – there are people who might be
listening and thinking they might like to have your iPod for themselves and aren't bothered how they get it.

On the flip side, you may be considering going to Glastonbury to commit crime. If you are a criminal you may find yourself spending a night in the cells,
visiting the lesser known stage known as Yeovil Magistrates Court or learning what it's like on the other side of the big shiny fence. It's not advisable so
don't take any drugs to the festival, rob anyone or find it hilariously amusing to steal a tent.
Last but not least, - alcohol. By all means, please have a good time, but remember that drinking too much hampers your judgment – one drink too many can lead to many problems – not least forgetting where your tent is. You can also become prone to assault or robbery when drunk – so try not to have too much and keep aware of your surroundings.
There is a lot in the media about drug rape and pills being slipped in your drinks. However, drug induced rape is fortunately very rare.
What is more common are women being raped after becoming very drunk. Please be aware of how much you are drinking, stay with friends and don't go off with strangers.
