| Statement of performance |
The performance of Avon and Somerset Police has improved steadily over recent years. In 2004 we were one of the worst performing forces. Today our performance in many areas of our work places us in the top ten performing forces.
We monitor our performance closely and regularly so that we can respond quickly to any spikes in particular crimes and ensure that the quality and response of our service is sustained. Local monitoring of crime and disorder is an important part of that overall approach.
The Crime Comparator site is flawed and misleading in this and many other respects. The site uses force-level data up to June 2011 which makes it substantially out of date and there is neither context nor definition of the crime performance measures used. Most importantly, neither the Constabulary nor local neighbourhood priorities are reflected in the information provided. The Crime Comparator site does not take account of resources either. Avon and Somerset Police is under-funded to the tune of £20million per year as a result of the government’s funding formula.
