Anthony Bangham joined Avon and Somerset Constabulary in January 2010, moving from West Mercia Police.
ACC Bangham is responsible for Communications, Criminal Justice and Service Standards. His portfolio also includes Professional Standards and Corporate Information Management. He is the chair of the South West Regional Professional Standards Group and is the lead officer for the regional project developing Contact Management, Communications and Airwave.
He said: “I am committed to making sure we are always there for people. When people contact us, I want them to feel confident that their matter will be dealt with swiftly and effectively. It is great to be part of a force which has high standards and shares these goals.”
ACC Bangham grew up in Worcestershire and then joined his local force, West Mercia Police, as a Police Constable in 1991 after gaining a degree in Agricultural Business Management. He was a Sergeant and Inspector in rural and urban areas and went on to become Chief Inspector of Community Policing in Herefordshire.
ACC Bangham gained extensive experience working in Operations, following his appointment as Superintendent of Operations in Hereford. This led to various roles including working nationally with the Association of Chief Police Officers on the police use of firearms.
He was promoted to Chief Superintendent in 2007 and became Head of Professional Standards then moved on to head up the force’s Operations Department, which was his previous position before joining Avon and Somerset.
Married with two daughters, he enjoys spending time with his family and is a keen runner.
