Ranks and Epaulette

Abbreviation	Full	Epaulette
PC	*Police Constable (A constable's epaulette shows his/her force number.)
PS	*Police Sergeant (A sergeant's epaulette shows his/her force number and three pointing down silver chevrons - commonly called stripes.)
Insp	*Inspector (An inspector's epaulette shows two silver stars - commonly called pips)
CI	*Chief Inspector (A chief inspector's epaulette shows three silver pips.)
Supt	*Superintendent (A superintendent's epaulette shows a light brown and red crown.)
C/Supt	*Chief Superintendent (A chief superintendent's epaulette shows a silver and red crown and a silver pip.)
ACC	Assistant Chief Constable (An assistant chief constable's epaulette shows crossed tipstaves within a wreath.)
DCC	Deputy Chief Constable (A deputy chief constable's epaulette shows crossed tipstaves within a wreath and a pip.)
CC	Chief Constable (A chief constable's epaulette shows crossed tipstaves within a wreath and a silver and red crown.).

*These ranks should be preceded by Detective if within the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
