The Force
Intelligence Group (FIG) has overall responsibility for co-ordinating intelligence flows between the police and partnership agencies. Through effective use of intelligence,
the teams within the Force Intelligence Group can help to reduce crime and disorder in the Avon and Somerset Constabulary area. This is achieved by providing better opportunities
for identifying offenders, disruption of criminal activity and targeted prevention initiatives. Its teams are tasked with providing support and assistance to all members
of the Avon and Somerset Constabulary and ultimately members of the public.
Force Intelligence Bureau
The Force Intelligence Bureau (FIB) is the predominant function within FIG. The role of the bureau is to effectively manage intelligence to identify
crime trends and series to minimise the risk of harm to the public and to support operational needs and activities at local level. FIB teams include
Prison Intelligence, Crimestoppers, Criminal Intelligence Analysts and International Liaison.
Prison Intelligence
The Constabulary Prison Intelligence Officers (PIOs) are managed within the Force Intelligence Bureau. They are the single point of contact for all enquiries within Her
Majesty's Prisons. In the Avon and Somerset force area the PIOs have responsibility for the following prison establishments:
- HMP Bristol
- HMP Shepton Mallet
- HM Open Prison, Leyhill
- HMP Ashfield Young Offenders Institute
- HMP Eastwood Park
