The Public Protection Unit's work portfolio includes the child abuse investigation teams (CAIT), domestic abuse investigation teams(DAIT) and hate crime investigation teams and the overall management of the constabulary's dangerous offenders including registered sex offenders.

Child Abuse Investigation Teams (CAIT) are set up across the force area to deal with concerns in relation to child abuse and child protection matters, from partnership agencies such as Social Services and the Health Authority or indeed the general public.

Identifying vulnerable people early and referring them for the services that they require before they need repeated police intervention

Making the safeguarding of children and other vulnerable people everybody's business and key to everything we all do.

When crimes are committed, investigating them with skill, thoroughness and sensitivity and bringing offenders to justice.

Providing expertise in the management of investigations involving vulnerable victims.

Working more closely in support of and with assistance of other district staff.

In addition to crime investigation, adopting a problem solving approach to the management of the most vulnerable members of society as well as those who target and offend against them.
