Avon and Somerset Constabulary Training School is part of the modern Police Headquarters site set in attractive grounds on Portishead Down
at the top of Valley Road in Portishead which is located south west of Bristol within easy reach of the M5 motorway and Bristol rail and air facilities.
The site has been built to the highest design specifications and has an excellent restaurant together with residential and recreational facilities.
There is also a small shop and bar on site.
The Training School itself has a large number of well-equipped classrooms catering for a wide range of police specific training, several of which
have an interactive whiteboard. There is also a library, video and resource unit, fully equipped TV studio, a Hydra simulation suite and a 150-seat lecture theatre.
In addition, the ICT Training Unit has a fully equipped mobile training facility.
The school has five main training units: Foundation Training of which RPU training is a part, Investigative Training, Leadership and Diversity, Operational
Training and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Training. Although catering primarily for the training needs of Avon and Somerset Constabulary
personnel, the Training School welcomes students from other police forces, armed services, government agencies and other non-police organisations. However, some training
can only be delivered to particular employees, eg the Police National Computer (PNC) to staff employed by UK police forces or its partners; Casualty Bureau to the
police and other emergency services.
