Compensation Paid Out For Mistaken Raids Since 2011

Please state the total amount of compensation paid out by your force as a result of home raids carried out in error. For aiding your search, by the term ‘raids’ I’m referring to ‘entry, search and seizure’.

Please find the requested information in the table below. This information has been retrieved from records held within our Professional Standards Department.

We have interpreted ‘raids’ as premises entered using force, generally under the powers conferred by the Police and Criminal Evidence Act (PACE).

The below relates to claims received for premises entry carried out at the wrong address, generally where the officers mistakenly went to the wrong premises when they had powers under PACE to enter different premises. These numbers only relate to incidents where a claim was made and recorded. In none of cases were any items seized in error.
