How many cases of rape do you have on file which are classed as unsolved?
How many cases of sexual assault do you have on file classed as unsolved?
Please provide the information for the last five years (2011-2016).
Please see the information in the table below.
The figures provided relate to those crimes which have a current classification home office outcome code of 14 and above.
This includes crimes without suspects(i.e. the suspect is not known), crimes where the identity of the suspect is not known ie a first name only, and crimes where the victim does not want a prosecution or where there is not enough evidence to support a prosecution.
Please ensure, should you use these figures for comparison with other forces, that they have provided this information in the same way, and not interpreted your request differently or used alternative disposal reasons.

There is in general an increase in these offences reported to us. There are a number of reasons to explain the rise, including increased awareness of this type of crime, an increase in early reporting of offences and an increase in confidence among victims in the criminal justice system.
