Employees Disciplined Over Their Social Use Between 2014-2016

Question

The number of staff and serving officers disciplined over their use of social media over the last three calendar years - 2014, 2015, 2016.

I would also like to know a description of the offence and any action taken please.

Answer

In answer to this we have reviewed Complaints, as defined by the IPCC (Independent Police Complaints Commission) under the Police Reform Act 2002 https://www.ipcc.gov.uk/sites/default/files/Documents/statutoryguidance/guidance_on_recording_of_complaints_under_PRA_2002.pdf together with Conduct (Misconduct) as defined in “Home Office Guidance, Police Officer Misconduct, Unsatisfactory Performance and Attendance Management Procedures” and Police Staff regulations.

Officer has a Facebook account in his own name where they identified them self as working for the Force.  On that Facebook page they: a) Liked/associated with groups that are expressly racist in their name and/or objectives and which promote offensive material; and b) Shared/posted material that is offensive as targeting certain sections of the community on the basis of their race and/or religion and/or nationality.
