Drug Possession Arrests and Charges Since November 2015

Question

Could you please tell me the number of people arrested for drugs possession (not with intent to supply) every year in the last five years? Could you also tell me the number of those same people who went on to be charged for possession of drugs?

Could you please collate the yearly data from April to April. Could you please separate the data according to the classes A, B and C (not including anabolic steroids) of the drugs relating to the arrests/charges.

Answer

Due to a change in our recording system in November 2015, we are unable to provide figures prior to this date. To extract this information prior to November 2015 we would be required to review each individual custody record which would attract the section 12 cost of compliance exemption.

Please see the requested information for the full month periods available.

In April 2016 the constabulary set up the Drugs Education Programme in the Bristol area which offers an alternative route for drug possession offences. It delivers a ‘once only opportunity’ for offenders to receive an intervention aimed at deterring them from further drug use and further involvement in the criminal justice system.
