Crimes Reported Electronically in 2015-2016

Question

I would like to make the following Freedom of Information request on the subject of crimes reported electronically.

Does your police force offer members of the public the opportunity to report crimes online, either by email or through an online reporting form?

If yes, please provide a brief description of your online reporting service.

If no, please disregard the below questions:

1. In the last two calendar years (2015 and 2016) how many crimes have been reported to your force electronically? (via an online form or email). Please break down by year.

2. How many of these crimes (reported electronically) have been solved? Again, please break down by year.

Answer

Please see our response detailed in the table below. Almost 50 per cent of the reported crimes relate to theft offences whereby there were no positive lines of enquiry.

When reporting a crime or incident online, the individual is advised that if they are reporting an emergency that is happening at the time, of if someone is in danger, they should instead dial 999.
