Question

1. Number of domestic violence protection notices (DVPNs) issued by superintendents (or higher ranked officers) for each day for your region for the period 08 March 2014 to 31 March 2017 inclusive. If daily information is not available, please provide monthly information.

2. Number of domestic violence protection orders (DVPOs) issued by the court for each day for your region for the period 08 March 2014 to 31 March 2017 inclusive. If daily information is not available, please provide monthly information.

3. Number of DVPN/DVPOs breached for each month for the period 08 March 2014 to 31 March 2017 inclusive.

4. For each year from 2009 to 2017 (to date) inclusive, how many domestic abuse specialist officers were employed in your force.

5. For each year from 2009 to 2017 (to date) inclusive, whether your force had a dedicated domestic abuse unit, whether specialist officers were part of a general public protection unit, or whether they were part of some other unit.

Answer

1-3. Please find the information attached. Dates not detailed did not have any DVPNs or DVPOs issued/breached.

With reference to question 1, the data provided is in respect of the number of DVPN’s issued by officers and not data in relation to those issued by Superintendents. A DVPN must be authorised by a Superintendent prior to being issued but DVPN’s are issued by the officers.

With reference to question 3, please note that this is the number of DVPOs breached, not the number of individual breaches as an order can be breached more than once.

4. Investigating domestic abuse is under the remit of every police officer. However, in order to provide you with some information, we have searched for job descriptions, with domestic abuse in the job description. This has returned the figures presented in the table below. However, please note that this is not a true reflection of the number officers with specialist domestic abuse training, knowledge and skills.

5. Prior to 2011 Avon and Somerset Constabulary had a dedicated domestic abuse unit. Following a re-structure in 2011 there has been no dedicated domestic abuse unit, and staff in our Public Protection Unit have had specific training with reference to domestic abuse victims as well as wider public protection concerns.
