Officers Released Under Ill Heath Retirement Since 2012

Question

1. For the last five years please provide the number of police officers released under ill health retirement- as officers per year.

2. Current annual cost to organisation for injury award payments for police officers.

3. Please provide for the last five years the constabulary's quota / ratio of projected number of officers to be released on ill health retirement.

4. Please provide the quota/ ratio of officers to be released as injury on duty related ill health retirement.

5. Please provide agreed budget for last five years to cover ill health retirement and also breakdown of budget for injury on duty award payments.

6. Please provide actual figures paid each year for ill health retirement and payments as injury on duty awards. Please provide above information for the current year 2017 to date.

2. Current annual cost to organisation for injury award payments for police officers, is detailed below in the response to question 6.

3/4. With regards to questions three and four, for budgeting purposes, it is necessary to assume a certain number of ill-health pensions will take place.  This has been assumed at 12 although in doing so the budget has no bearing upon the individual decisions made in each case.  This is then reviewed quarterly and adjusted to reflect prevailing forecasts.  This is not separated with regards to those injured on duty.

5. With regards to question five please see below the budget for last five years to cover ill health retirement and also breakdown of budget for injury on duty award payments.

The Year is for the period 1st February to 31 January following year (due to payments being made one month in arrears).  Year 2017 is for January to October.
