Arrests of 10 and 11 Year Olds in 2015

Please answer this question for the 2015 calendar year

1. How many arrests did you make of people who were aged 10 and 11?

2. How many of these arrests were for offences of alleged (i) rape, (ii) other sexual offences, (iii) robbery, (iv) violence against the person and (v) drug offences.

Answer

In England and Wales, children aged 10 are considered to have reached an age where they can be held responsible for their crimes. As they have reached the age of criminal responsibility, they can be arrested on suspicion of committing an offence and can be charged. However, persons aged 10 and 11 years old are only normally arrested for serious offences where the arrest is a proportionate and necessary response and after other means have been considered.

In 2015, 13 arrests of individuals aged 10 and 11 years were made. Please find the requested breakdown for the requested offences below:
