Arrests For Murder/Manslaughter 2015-2016

Question

1. How many people in total has your force arrested for murder/manslaughter in each of the past two calendar years ie 2015 and 2016 – please provide separate answers for each year?

2. In each year, how many of these suspects were given mental health assessments?

3. If possible, please state how many were then transferred to hospital for treatment/further assessment?

2. Every detainee in custody has a risk assessment by the custody officer which covers mental health issues or vulnerabilities. Some detainees will also be seen by Healthcare Professional (HCP). Please see the tables below for the number of the suspects above who were seen by a HCP who will assess whether the individual will require a referral for a mental health assessment. The Court Assessment and Referral Service (CARS) or the Court Assessment and Advice Service (CAAS) carry out mental health assessments.

Please see the table below for the number of detainees who had a HCP, CARS or CAAS assessment. Please note that this information only relates to assessments carried out during time spent in police custody and does not include any assessments which may take place at any other stage during an investigation.
