Hate Crime in 2014/15 and 2015/16 by Ethnicity and Nationality

Question

I would like to request statistics relating to hate crime incidents in your operational districts. Could you provide a detailed breakdown of ethnic origin and nationalities in your county? Please provide information for year 2014-2015 and 2015-16 until August.

Answer

Over the past two years, we have seen an increased level of reports of hate crime. As more victims feel confident about coming forward to report incidents, we expect these levels in Avon and Somerset to continue to increase. For us, that’s a tangible demonstration of their belief in us to tackle crime and bring offenders to justice.

The investigation around this type of crime is victim orientated. It is essential that when victims contact us that they can be confident that the investigation will take in to account what they want to happen and the outcome they are seeking.  We will support victims unequivocally from the point they report a crime and throughout the entire length of the investigation.

There is never an excuse for hate crime in any shape or form and this criminality will not be tolerated.

We promise to continue to work together with our partner agencies every day to make the communities of Avon and Somerset be safe and feel safe. More than ever we want those who are victims of hate crime to feel confident in the belief that we’ll take their reports seriously and make sure they get all the support they need.
