I would like to make a request for the statistics which show the number of racially motivated incidents or race related hate crimes recorded by Avon and Somerset police for the period June 2015 - July 2016 in the Bristol area.
If time constraints allow, for also the number of arrests made, or charges brought against suspects, in relation to racially motivated crimes to be shown for the same period.
Over the past two years, we have seen an increased level of reports of hate crime. As more victims feel confident about coming forward to report incidents, we expect these levels in Avon and Somerset to continue to increase. For us, that’s a tangible demonstration of their belief in us to tackle crime and bring offenders to justice.
The investigation around this type of crime is victim orientated. It is essential that when victims contact us that they can be confident that the investigation will take in to account what they want to happen and the outcome they are seeking. We will support victims unequivocally from the point they report a crime and throughout the entire length of the investigation.
There is never an excuse for hate crime in any shape or form and this criminality will not be tolerated.
We promise to continue to work together with our partner agencies every day to make the communities of Avon and Somerset be safe and feel safe. More than ever we want those who are victims of hate crime to feel confident in the belief that we’ll take their reports seriously and make sure they get all the support they need.
We have identified 1016 racially motivated crimes and 69 incidents that have been reported to us between June 2015 and the date of your email.
We have identified 52 arrests made in relation to racially motivated crimes.
120 crimes had a positive outcome, this includes charges (86), cautions and restorative justice.
