I would like to know how many incidents (that were recorded as racially motivated) were reported to you between the dates of:
Friday 24 June 2016 and Saturday 23 July 2016 - a one month period.
There were 242 incidents reported that were flagged as racially motivated in the period requested.
Over the past two years, we have seen an increased level of reports of hate crime. As more victims feel confident about coming forward to report incidents, we expect these levels in Avon and Somerset to continue to increase. For us, that’s a tangible demonstration of their belief in us to tackle crime and bring offenders to justice.
The investigation around this type of crime is victim orientated. It is essential that when victims contact us that they can be confident that the investigation will take in to account what they want to happen and the outcome they are seeking. We will support victims unequivocally from the point they report a crime and throughout the entire length of the investigation.
There is never an excuse for hate crime in any shape or form and this criminality will not be tolerated.
We promise to continue to work together with our partner agencies every day to make the communities of Avon and Somerset be safe and feel safe. More than ever we want those who are victims of hate crime to feel confident in the belief that we’ll take their reports seriously and make sure they get all the support they need.
