1. How many complaints of racism has your force received by
(a) an alleged victim
(b) a fellow police officer, or
(c) a third party in respect of racist comments or behaviour by a member of your force? Please give figures for the 2014/15 financial year.
2. How many officers have been disciplined as a result of these complaints of racism and what was the result of that disciplinary action?
3. In relation to the last five incidents which fell within the remit of Q2 please state any words or phrases that were deemed to have been racist.
a) A total of 30 complaints of racism were made by members of the public. Please note that one complaint may be made up of more than one allegation against more than one officer. This figure is not indicative of the number of complainants.
b) Only members of the public can make a ‘complaint’. Officers and staff can raise misconduct matters which are recorded by our Professional Standards Department. No police officers or staff members raised issues about racist comments or behaviour which were recorded as a misconduct matter.
c) Of the above 30 complaints, 10 were referred through a third party.
Q2. In order for disciplinary action to be taken, it must be determined that there was a case to answer for misconduct or gross misconduct. During the financial year 2014/2015, no police officers or police staff were disciplined as a result of complaints of racism.
Q3. This question is not applicable.
