Police Officer Fitness Test Results 2013-2016

1. What fitness test, if any, people are required to undertake if they wish to join Avon & Somerset Police.

2. How many people have undertaken that test so far this year and how many took the test in each of the following years; 2015, 2014 and 2013.

3. How many of those people passed the test and how many failed so far in 2016 and in 2015, 2014 and 2013.

4. What fitness test(s) members of Avon & Somerset Police staff are required to undertake

I would also appreciate, as you suggest, you providing the information for points 4-9 for each of the three categories; Police Officers, Special Constables and PCSOs.

Answer

1. The information you have requested in question 1 has been considered and I am not obliged to supply the information you have requested.

The exemption applicable to this information is Section 21 – Information reasonably accessible by other means. This is an absolute and class based exemption and as such does not require a harm and public interest test.

The information requested is publicly available to view on our website. Information relating to the fitness test that police officers, Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) and Special Constables are required to pass can be found using the link provided.  In accordance with the Act, this represents a Refusal Notice for this part of your request.

4. The only police staff role that requires a fitness test is that for PCSOs as described in the response to question 1.

5. As of 31st May 2016 we had a headcount of 2,758 police officers, 331 PCSOs and 404 special constables. Please refer to the table in response to question 3.

6. The Job related Fitness Test (JRFT) became mandatory for Police Officers in January 2015. Police officers are required to undertake the JRFT as part of their personal protective equipment (PPE) refresher training. This test is not applicable to any other role.

9. The College of Policing requires officers to be progressed to Unsatisfactory Performance Procedures (UPP) after three unsatisfactory attempts.
