Speeding and Detention

Question

1. Please provide information as to the mechanism by which data is recorded in relation to average detention times for prisoners in custody facilitates.

2. During 2015 how many times was a speed camera van deployed at Henlade on the A358

3. Please identify on each occasion how long the camera van was at the location

4. Please particularise on each occasion how many vehicles were identified as breaking the speed limit sufficient for a requisition to be issued

Answer

1. The mechanism by which we calculate average detention time is run by an information report from our custody databases, which shows total detention time for each custody record. From this information we are able to calculate average detention time. Average detention time calculates the time between authorisation of detention and release from custody for the detainees in custody during the period in question.

2. In 2015 the speed camera van was deployed 52 times.

In respect of a previous FOI 1624/15 you submitted relating to average detention times at custody suites, our Criminal Justice department have now identified a way to automatically extract the information you have requested in question 1 within the 18 hour limit. Due to a change in recording systems the Criminal Justice department previously could only extract this information manually.

Bridgwater Express Park custody suite has now been open for a year. The requests apply to the first full 12 months.

1. Please provide average detention times broken down month by month for the for the new facility and comparable information for the existing Yeovil Custody facility and also for the immediately preceding 12 months at each of the old custody suites - Taunton, Bridgwater and Weston Super Mare?
