Total number of domestic fuel thefts reported to, or attended by, POLICE AUTHORITY for the 2015 calendar year, including the type of fuel stolen and value of the theft.

On 10th August you clarified that domestic fuel thefts relate to the theft of heat oil or kerosene and commercial relates to bilking from petrol station.

Answer

A search of our crime recording system based on the two classification groups relevant to this request – ‘Theft if not classified elsewhere’  or ‘Making off without payment (Bilking) has provided the following results where the property stolen is categorised as fuel.

Commercial fuel thefts

1167 recorded crimes of ‘Making off without paying’ of these:

380 Diesel thefts with a value of £23 125.61

780 Petrol thefts with a value of £24 433.58

1 Oil theft with a value of £10.04

6 thefts of both petrol and diesel with no further information

 

408 recorded crimes of ‘Theft if not classified elsewhere’ of these:

167 Diesel thefts with a value of £20 358.48

230 Petrol thefts with a value of £8 943.59

10 Oil thefts with no value recorded.

Domestic fuel thefts

There are 28 recorded crimes of ‘Theft if not classified elsewhere’ where the MO indicated that the substance stolen was ‘oil’ of these:

23 recorded crimes where the MO indicated that the substance stolen was ‘heating oil’ with a total value of £8113.96.

5 recorded crimes where the MO indicated that the substance stolen was ‘oil’ with a total value of £1115 but it has not been recorded whether this was ‘heating oil’
