Deputy Chief Constable Sarah Crew

Sarah was appointed Deputy Chief Constable in June 2017.

Sarah Crew

Sarah joined Avon and Somerset Constabulary in September 1994. Originally posted to Broadbury Road Police Station in South Bristol, Sarah performed various roles in uniform and CID within Bristol until her promotion to Detective Chief Inspector in 2004.

As a Detective Chief Inspector and then as a Detective Superintendent in charge of Bristol CID, Sarah regularly performed the role of Senior Investigating Officer in a range of major investigations. She also led several large change initiatives within Bristol including the introduction of Operation Beacon, a task force focused on reducing the impact of drug supply within the city’s communities.

In 2011 Sarah was appointed the commander of the South Gloucestershire policing area, leading her team through the first phase of change necessitated by the 2010 Spending Review.

In 2013 Sarah was appointed lead for a major change programme set up to deliver further cost savings whilst maintaining a high level of service to the public of Avon and Somerset. This has seen the design and implementation of a new operating model which has placed the Constabulary on a firm footing to meet these and future challenges.

From 2007 to 2015 Sarah has been the force lead for the Constabulary’s response to serious sexual offences. Her achievements include the development, with a range of partners, of The Bridge Sexual Assault Referral Centre and the SafeLink specialist victim support service and the creation of Operation Bluestone, a nationally recognised approach to the investigation of rape and serious sexual assault.

Sarah is chair of the Avon and Somerset Local Resilience Forum and Anti-Slavery Partnership.

Sarah enjoys challenges. In recent years this has seen her complete various strenuous challenges, from half marathons to long distance obstacle courses, the latter in support of Unseen, a charity supporting victims of modern slavery.
