There are certain requirements and checks which have to be met in order for you to become a PCSO.
Applicants from all backgrounds and ethnic groups are encouraged to apply. Due to the powers associated with the role of PCSO the minimum age to apply is 18.
You must be a British citizen, an EC/EEA national or a Commonwealth citizen or foreign national with no restrictions on your stay in the United Kingdom. You must have been a resident in the UK for three years, without breaks prior to the date you signed your completed application form.
Applicants must be in good health mentally and physically to undertake the duties associated with this role.
PCSOs work shifts and will be provided with a full Uniform; they are mostly deployed between the hours of 7.00am and 3.00am, depending on the area in which they work.
Applicants will have their financial status checked. These checks are carried out because PCSO’s have access to privileged information, which may make them vulnerable to corruption.
Please note that Avon and Somerset carry out a social media check when vetting takes place.
As a condition of employment to a Police Force, a new recruit will be required to undergo Biometric Vetting which involves providing a DNA sample (mouth swab) and Fingerprints and Palm prints. This is to ensure that you have not come to the attention of the Police in any criminal circumstances.
