Our inclusive culture

At Avon and Somerset Police, we want to be an employer of choice and encourage people to become familiar with the many opportunities across the force area – irrespective of background, beliefs, culture or sexuality.

We want to widen the spectrum of applicants and would especially like to see more applications from black and minority ethnic communities.

We can provide prospective candidates from under-represented groups with advice on the various stages of our recruitment and selection processes. For our larger campaigns, we also run additional workshops to support candidates from these groups.

A dedicated team is working hard to increase the diversity, inclusion and difference of our workforce, so that it reflects the communities we serve.

We currently have a range of support networks within our service, including Avon and Somerset Black Police Association, disability group and lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans support groups as well as many others.

We recognise that as a service, we have some way to go to truly reflect the communities we serve and we are always looking at new ways to encourage people to join us. Much of our work is dispelling the myth that people feel that a career in policing may not be for them.

A diverse police service benefits everyone, as it improves greater co-operation from all communities, better relationships with communities and promotes equality of opportunity for everyone.
