Police and Fire Headquarters

Our force headquarters in Portishead was purpose-built in the early ’90s and was officially opened by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on 2 June 1995.

Police HQ is closed to the public

If you need to speak to an officer, visit an enquiry office at your local police station.

The 47-acre site cost £31 million and is currently home to over 1,000 operational and police staff. There are a number of facilities on site, including Portishead Down Training School – a renowned regional centre of excellence for police training.

The site hosts various operational departments and administrative functions. These range from Criminal Investigations and the Road Policing Unit, to Purchasing and Supply.

The number of operational officers on site is kept to a minimum, with the exception of the training centre, therefore the vast majority of people who work on site are police staff who support operational policing.

The site has a large conference room which can seat up to 200 people and is regularly used for Chief Constable Commendations and Waley-Cohen Awards. There are also a number of smaller meeting rooms and venues.

For official visitors to the site who have an appointment, the buildings are clearly identified and reception staff will be happy to help you.
