We’re appealing for information following an arson attack at a house in Bath.

The front door of a property on Van Diemen's Lane was deliberately set alight at around 9.40pm last night (3/1).

Extensive damage was caused.

Detective Constable John Shanahan said: “The residents of the property were at home at the time but thankfully they managed to escape unharmed before raising the alarm.

“We believe an accelerant was used to start the fire and so we are treating it extremely seriously.

“We’re keen to speak to anyone who saw anything out of the ordinary in the area last night or who has recently sold cans of petrol to anyone acting suspiciously."

Anyone with information should call 101 and provide the call handler with the reference number 5217001782.

If you don't want to speak to the police you can ring the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. They never ask your name or trace your call.
