We’re investigating a series of break-ins and thefts from vehicles using a car-park in Bristol over the past 11 months.
Since April 2017, we’ve recorded 55 offences, mostly of vans being broken into and tools stolen at Ikea’s car-park in Eastgate Retail Centre.
The most recent incident was on Saturday 3 February in which £4,000 worth of tools were stolen from a van.
PSCO Charlotte Thompson said: “We’ve been working closely with security at the store to try and increase the number of patrols and have made further recommendations, including cutting back bushes to improve visibility and putting out crime prevention or warning posters.
“We’re advising van owners to security mark all their tools and ideally, remove valuables from their vans when they’re left unattended. If you’re using this car-park, try and park in a well-lit area and if you have a rear-access only van, park up against a wall to make it harder for opportunist thieves. If not, then we suggest someone stays with the van.
“If you see anything suspicious activity in this car-park, or have any information about these thefts, please call 101 and give the call handler the reference number for the latest incident which is 5218025574.”
