Shepton Mallet prison Visit

Due to popular demand Frome Beat Team will be organising Prison Visits to Shepton Mallet prison. The whole day is run as a role play so as to make the experience as tangible as possible. Students from a number of local schools attended the Prison who really benefitted from the experience. The day first stars with the following: 08:45 - Students to be collected and brought to a classroom identified by the school to start the experience 09:00 – Introduction and explanation to students concerning the content and expectations of the day. 09:30 – Start of the experience, students will be “arrested, processed fingerprinted, photographed and DNA swabbed 10:00 – Students will be transported to HMP Shepton in a marked Police crew bus, students will be accompanied in the crew bus by a PCSO and a PC.two staff members from the school will make their own way to the prison. 10:45 - Arrive at HMP Shepton 11:00 – 14:00 Start of the prison experience, students will; be met at the prison by two ex-prison wardens, giving stories of prison life, students will take part in chores around the prison and will experience what it is like to spend time in a cell. 14:00 - students will be transported back to school in a marked Police Crew bus and will be accompanied by a PCSO and PC. 14:30 – A de-brief will take place at the school with students, staff officers and parents. 15:00 - End of experience.
