Organised Begging, Glastonbury Town Centre

There has been increased reports of organised begging in the Mendip area and Glastonbury Town Centre is one of the places we are getting these reports. Begging is an offence under Section 3 of the Vagrancy Act 1824, and this is a priority for Glastonbury NPT as Organised Begging Groups can make thousands of pounds a week, with an Organised beggar located nearby in Wells in 2021 caught with over £300 for the day.

Glastonbury NPT will continue to signpost any and all in need to the relevant services for food, accommodation and other support while enforcing a 3 strike rule.
Strike 1 – Verbal Warning – Signposted to relevant services.
Strike 2 – Written warning – Signposted to relevant services.
Strike 3 – Arrest.

If you are concerned about a specific individual, please contact us on 101 or 999 in an emergency.
