Coronavirus (COVID-19): the policing response and what you need to know

Advice on Cold Callers

Advice on unexpected doorstep callers

What to do if you open the door to an unexpected door to door caller.

Only let them into your home if you consider them to be genuine and you’re happy to have them in your home. You don’t need to answer or open the door or feel you have to let them in. Never feel embarrassed at turning them away.

Be cautious of bogus callers who try and trick their way in to your home by pretending to be a meter reader, police officer, council official, or someone needing help. Always ask to see their ID and read it carefully.

You can ask the person to come back another time when someone you trust will be with you.

If you’re worried about a doorstep caller, dial 999 in an emergency or 101 for any non-emergency calls to the police.
