Over seventy criminal acts were committed in Shepton Mallet town centre in September of this year. Shepton Mallet Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) are engaged in a groundbreaking partnership initiative in collaboration with local traders in a concerted effort to make engaging in criminal activity such as stealing from shops much riskier for the criminal.
Shepton Mallet Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) are keen to reach out to local business owners with a view to sharing information. A network of communication provides resilience and enables us to reach you quickly if we need to.
Our officers and traders are hand in hand to deter shop theft which funds drugs and anti-social behaviour in Shepton Mallet and the county.

PCSO Becky Manley joined us this month. Becky is an experienced officer who previously worked in the Bath outers team. The addition of Becky to Shepton Town strengthens the team and further enables us to identify and target known thieves.
Shepton Business Partnership continues to grow with more and more traders signing up to exchange details with PCSO’s. We are then able to contact traders directly in the event of an emergency. Shepton Town continues to be a safe place to trade with theft from shops considerably lower than in other town centres in Somerset East. Proactive policing and engagement have brought positive results for town centre traders and shoppers.

The Shepton Business Partnership now has forty eight traders who have provided Shepton Town team with emergency contact information which can be used by Police in emergency. Traders are welcoming the increased engagement with Police.
