Complaints from members of the public regarding the increased number of beggars around City Centre areas

Actions

  • Wednesday 16th June, 2021

As lockdown eases and we get into warmer weather, Wells NPT are actively patrolling the high street ready to sign post any possible beggars to relevant local support.

Begging is an offence under Section 3 of the Vagrancy Act 1824.

We would like to remind members of the public NOT to give anyone begging money and instead sign post them to local support such as The Connect Centre on Portway Wells.

If anyone is concerned about a specific individual, please contact us on 101 or 999 in an emergency.

The Wells NBT continue to provide support to all members of our community but we would like to remind members of the public NOT to give them money and instead sign post them to local support such as The Connect Centre on Portway Wells.

If anyone is concerned about a specific individual, please contact us on 101 or 999 in an emergency.

Due to the COVID-19 restrictions, many people from the homeless community have been housed by Mendip District Council. The beat team continue to patrol the City Centre and engage with anybody they see, signpost to support agencies and deal appropriately.
