Romance Fraud

The suspect targets the victim and feigns romantic intentions towards them; •A period of grooming takes place, often lasting months, to gain the victims trust and form a bond; •They use the nature of the relationship to start obtaining money or sensitive information from the victim; •Some victims unwittingly act as money mules receiving money from other victims.Police often attend to see a victim of Romance Fraud (RF) as a result of a Banking Protocol.

Victims of romance fraud are often vulnerable due to loneliness. Statistics show they are predominantly female aged between 50-59yrs old. The Police will ensure the victim is suitably supported depending on their level of need.
