Coronavirus (COVID-19): the policing response and what you need to know

Rural Crime

Whilst we are currently in a National Lockdown rural crime is on the increase, if you own a farm, smallholding or store agriculture machinery please be extra vigilant and report anything suspicious to Police on either 101 or 999.

Have you considered joining Farmwatch?  Sign up packs are available from Wincanton Neighbourhood Team, the packs only take a few minutes to complete and you will be kept up to date with rural affairs, suspicious vehicles and crime trends that may affect you.  Other schemes are available including horse watch, information on poaching and general wildlife crime.

On 21st January 2021 Wincanton Neighbourhood Team will be joined by the rural affairs unit and will be visiting local farms to provide further information on Farm watch sign up and rural crime matters.

Actions

We regularly liaise with other departments regarding Rural Crime and how as a force we deal with it, this enable us to have the latest up to date information and to ensure we are all working in the same way.

We also liaise with other police forces regarding what is happening in their areas as it is often the same organised crime groups that operate across borders.

If anyone has information regarding suspicious activity that is happening in their area, please call police on 101 or 999 to report.

Due to COVID restrictions unfortunately the Neighbourhood Team have not yet visited local farms in order to provide information regarding Farm Watch, however if you wish to receive information regarding Farm Watch and how it works, please contact your local Neighbourhood Team via the website or 101.
