Make a complaint against the Police

Use this form to tell us if you are dissatisfied with the service you have received.

If you wish, you can report this behaviour anonymously.

If you are reporting a crime, you will need to complete the Report a crime or incident form.

If your complaint relates to the performances of Bob Vylan or Kneecap at Glastonbury Festival on 28 June, a police investigation is being undertaken.

If you wish to make a complaint about Avon and Somerset Police, the statutory guidance issued by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) states that a complainant must be a member of the public who claims to be:

  • the person in relation to whom the conduct took place
  • adversely affected by or witnessed the conduct
  • acting on behalf of someone in relation to the above

A person is adversely affected if they suffer any form of loss or damage, distress or inconvenience, if they are put in danger or are otherwise unduly put at risk of being adversely affected.

A person is not considered to have been adversely affected by solely having seen or heard about the conduct or effects (for example, in the news or being told by a third party) unless they were:

  • physically present and saw or heard the conduct, or its effects, taking place
  • adversely affected because they knew the person directly affected before the conduct happened

Complaints that do not meet the eligibility criteria, to be formally recorded and handled in accordance with police regulations, will have been captured on our systems. Collation of public dissatisfaction will be fed back into the organisation where appropriate.
