Please provide the following information relating to reported dog theft offences for the financial years 2023/24 and 2024/25 (or the most recent period available), including offences recorded under the Pet Abduction Act 2024 where applicable:

– The total number of recorded dog theft offences reported during the 2023/24 financial year.

– The total number of recorded dog theft offences reported during the 2024/25 financial year.

– If recorded, the breed of dog involved in each reported theft offence.

Response

We can confirm that we have identified 82 Pet abductions offences from from 01/04/2023 until 30/04/2026. This offence does not differentiate between dogs/cats, therefore we have manually reviewed these offences.

We can confirm that of those 82 offences, 53 are in relation to dogs.

3 x French Bull dogs

1 x Bull mastiff cross Staffordshire Bull Terrier

1 x Cane Corso, Staffordshire Bull terrier and Boxer cross

1 x Chinese Crested

1 x Cocker Spaniel

1 X Dashaud

1 x German Shorthaired Pointer

2 x Jack Russell

1 x Malinois

1 Staffordshire Bull Terrier

1 x Pitbull Terrier

1 x Pocket Bulldog

 

We can also confirm that we have searched our crime recording database for theft/Burglary offences from 01/04/2023 until 30/04/2026 which has data recorded as property classification ‘Stolen’ and property type ‘ Animal Dog’. There have been 12 reports identified with stolen property matching these categories. We have provided the table below of the breeds of dogs stolen, where this is recorded, broken down by year.
