For the 2025, 2024, 2023, 2022 and 2021 calendar years, please state the following:

How many of your officers faced internal disciplinary proceedings for alleged sexual misconduct?

How many of these officers were suspended?

How many of these officers were placed on restricted duties?

How many of these officers were dismissed?

Response

We have provided data for finalised cases where Police Officers have faced internal disciplinary procedures where the subject has had to attend an internal meeting/hearing and the allegation relates to:

  • J3) Other sexual conduct,
  • J1) Sexual assault,
  • J2) Sexual harassment,
  • G2) Abuse of position for sexual purpose.

Please note, the decision for the officer to be dismissed or put on restricted/suspended duties is linked to the case as a whole, and therefore the suspension/restriction/dismissal decision may not be solely based on the allegations listed above.

Where a decision is yet to be made as to whether the case will be referred to disciplinary proceedings, this information has been excluded from the dataset below.

Details of how allegations are recorded can be found in the IOPC guidance on capturing data police complaints here.

Case Recorded Year  Disciplinary Proceeding Subject Count    Restricted  Suspended  Dismissed
2021 *  8  5  5  7
2022  7  2  4  5
2023  7  0  6  5
2024  1  0  1  1
2025  0  0  0  0
Total  23  7  16  18

* In 2021, some officers were on restricted duties, this then moved to suspended duties, so the count for restriction and suspension is included in both.
